How to get to Puerto Galera
Planning a trip to Puerto Galera? Before doing so,
here are some guidelines on the possible modes of transportation to
the place.
By Air
There are no direct flights that connect to Puerto
Galera by air. However, the best possible route is to book a flight
to San Jose, Mindoro Occidental. All flights connecting to the place
come from Manila. To get to Puerto Galera, one would need to take a
lengthy bus ride or rent a car.
McGuire Field, located in San Jose, was initially a
US Air Force base before it was converted for public use. The main
carrier with daily flights from Manila and vice versa is Asian
Spirit. However, Philippine Airlines and Air Philippines have
frequent flights to McGuire Field.
Traveling by air is only practical when planning a
trip to the whole island since the land-and-sea is much more
effective and preferable.
By Sea
By sea, Puerto Galera is accessible through
land-sea route from Manila to Batangas to either Puerto Galera or
Calapan. Traveling by land takes a couple of hours to 3 hours while
traveling by sea takes 1 and a half hours to 2 hours.
The easiest mode of taking a land-sea route is to
avail of a Sikat bus-and-ferry package which is available at the
Centerpoint Hotel. This package allows passengers to easily connect
to a bus and ferry trip. Compared to other buses, the fare for this
package is quite expensive. However, the coaches provide more room
and the trip is shorter since there are no stopovers. The sad news
is that there is only one trip per day.
At the Batangas City Pier, one can choose from a
wide variety of ferries going to Puerto Galera, depending on where
the guests plan to enter. There are three principal points of entry
to Puerto Galera namely Muelle, Balatero, and Sabang Beach.
By Land
The easiest mode of transportation to Puerto Galera
is via the land-and-sea route that begins in Pasay City in Manila.
Trips are frequent and buses arrive at Batangas Pier in about 3
hours. However, one needs to ensure that bus is headed for the pier
instead of Batangas Bus Terminal.
From Batangas, reaching Puerto Galera is possible
by sea. Passengers can have a choice between basic outriggers to
state-of-the-art air conditioned fast ferries. The RORO
(roll-on/roll-off) trip is another viable option.
The cheapest form of transportation is via the
commercial buses of Tritran, BLTB, and Jam. Although the schedules
are quite erratic, the earliest trip leaves at 6 am with one hour
interval.
Public Transportation
Upon reaching Puerto Galera, public utility
vehicles serve as the main mode of transportation. There are
chartered bancas that would take tourists from Puerto Galera to some
of the beaches along the island. Taking a trip to the most popular
areas would become less reliable and per-trip arrangements would
have to be made.
Jeepneys are the most prominent modes of
transportation in Puerto Galera. They are available in two sizes and
are more preferred than buses. They regularly ply the roads of
Puerto Galera as well as in other cities.
Tricycles are the prominent mode of transportation
within the towns of the resort. The drivers are very eager to travel
long distances. They can also be hired by tourists on an hourly
basis.
Historically, majority of the trips around the
island happen in small outriggers and bancas. Tricycles are the
fresh addition to modes of transportation in the island. While there
are no regular taxi trips in Puerto Galera, it is likely to make
arrangements for rent a car through the travel agents.

Ferry boats are basically priced the same. If you
ever need to pre-book your tickets, it would be concerning the time
of your travel. Especially during the peak season, you can expect
people to come in droves to find the first ferry boat they could get
a seat into. To make your vacation a relaxing and stress-free one,

The most important matter that all travelers look
for in a place is accessibility, and White Beach is simply the most
accessible among all beach resorts in Puerto Galera. Different
people who visit this place may have various reasons for liking this
place. It offers clean waters, fine sand, exciting activities,
affordable accommodation, and a panoramic ocean view. But to tell
you the truth, these benefits are not everything for a traveler.
Accessibility is still number one on the travel check list. That is
why White Beach is the most sought-after destination in Oriental
Mindoro.
Transportation
From Batangas Port, you can ride on a ferryboat heading directly to
White Beach. If you have a car and have brought it to Batangas Port,
you can leave your car in the port parking lot. Don’t worry! The
parking lot is safe and you can leave your car there as long as you
want. Trust me! My friend left his car there for three days, and it
was still the same when we arrived from Puerto Galera.
If you would ask me whether to bring a car or not, I suggest you bring
one. That is, if you want to go home fast and conveniently after
your Galera vacation. I’m telling you this because not all buses in
Batangas Port are air-conditioned. So if you don’t like to ride an
air-cool bus on the way to your hotel or home, bring your own car.
Accommodation
As soon as you arrive in White Beach, a lot of people will offer you a
place to stay. If you don’t have a reservation, you can trust these
people. Otherwise, go directly to the agent you have talked to. But
let’s say you don’t have any reservation.
Room prices in White Beach vary depending on location and
air-condition. Rooms or houses near the beach can reach up to
4,000PHP during the peak season. But you can haggle for a little
lower price. If the staff offers you 500PHP per person a night, take
it. It’s already a reasonable price. You can still bargain for a
cheaper price though. So, just try your bargain skills and use your
charm. Who knows? You might find a way cheaper accommodation rate.
But here’s the best idea. Since this place is a beach area, its
temperature is naturally cold especially at night. So, no one needs
an air-conditioned room actually. A plain electric fan or two will
do.
Other Activities
The typical activities in White Beach are swimming, diving,
snorkeling, and nature trekking. But, what if you get tired of those
activities? Well, here are my tips for you. You can play table
tennis, beach volleyball, or badminton with your friends. These
sports are perfect for those who don’t want to get wet.
Aside from these day activities, you can also enjoy your White Beach
experience at night. If you want thrill, play Poker or other card
games with your friends. If you are looking for excitement, go to
the beach bar and meet new friends. There are lots of things to do
in White Beach, so don’t limit yourself with what I have listed
here.
White Beach is truly one perfect destination for beach bummers and
thrill seekers. Easy-to-find location, affordable accommodation, and
fun activities—who would not want more from this place?
